Donald E. Maughan (1928-2022)

Rev. Donald (Don) Earl Maughan, 93 of Peterborough, NH passed away on April 26, 2022, at Monadnock Community Hospital.

He was born in Dodgeville Wisconsin on December 30, 1928, to John and Audrey (Holland) Maughan. He worked with his father and brothers on the dairy farm for seven years. He was called to enter the ministry and pursued his education at Franklin College in Indiana for a Bachelor of Arts Degree where he met his beloved wife, Amy Morehouse. They were married on July 10, 1955, in Badger Grove, Indiana. He then went to Central Seminary in Kansas City, Kansas for a Bachelors in Divinity and later earned a Masters in Rural Sociology at Penn State University in 1965.

He was a beloved American Baptist Pastor for churches in Blanchard, Pennsylvania; Claremont, New Hampshire; Rochester, Indiana; and Evans Mills, New York. After full time ministry, he was interim pastor in Gloucester, MA; Tiverton, RI; Keene, NH; New London, NH and Springfield, VT.

Don was a creative man of many talents who enjoyed nature, art, music, and gardening. He especially enjoyed collecting and polishing stones to make jewelry. His life’s work was about giving and using his talents to make each place better than when he found it. He believed what he preached - to love God and serve God, and treat others with understanding, grace, and compassion.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Ruth, Hazel, and Eunice, and two brothers, Holland, and Paul.

Surviving is his wife, Amy, his son Steven of Gaithersburg, MD, his daughter Debbie and husband Randy Woodward from Champaign, IL and daughter Mary from Peterborough, NH; many nieces and nephews from across the country and so many others who loved him and call him dad and grandpa.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at The First Baptist Church, 461 Main Street, New London, NH.
